Farming/Agriculture

Throughout our long history we have enjoyed a close association with estate owners and farmers. We have a wealth of experience in these areas, including advising on single farm payments, farm business tenancies, farm contracting agreements, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), third party rights of access (CROWA), occupier’s liability, employment issues, compliance issues (including control of asbestos and obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act) and environmental and waste management issues.

With the relentless pressure on profits experienced by many farmers, there is an increasing trend to diversify from farming into other activities. We frequently assist farmers in applying for planning permission for changes to alternative uses and for constructing new developments and have also had considerable success in obtaining lawful use or development certificates for unauthorised diversification. If you are intending to buy or sell agricultural property, it is important to consider the implications this could have for your family, and you may need to consider matters such as tax planning or the need to make, or alter, your will.
