Website content - New requirements for companies
02 Jan 2007
New requirement, as from 1 January 2007, for companies to state their details on websites and other electronic documents
On 1 January 2007, new legislation extended to websites and various electronic communications, the statutory requirement for companies to state their particulars on documents.
Companies beware that it is now an offence not to state the company’s full name, its place of registration (e.g. England and Wales), its company registration number and its registered office on all of its websites and forms of electronic communications. We take the view that this includes e-mail communications.
The new regulations implement a European directive and amend the relevant provisions of the Companies Act 1985.
More detailed information on the new legislation is available on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) website at www.dti.gov.uk/bbf/co-act-2006/index.html or speak to a member of our Company/Commercial Team
