Trade Union recognition & Industrial action

Trade unions can be recognised voluntarily, semi-voluntarily (where the statutory recognition process is started but the parties reach a voluntary agreement before its conclusion) or through the statutory process. We can provide you with information and representation throughout the recognition process, and advise you as regards strategy. Where the trade union is granted recognition, we can advise as to collective bargaining rights.

Over recent years the role of the trade union in workplace relations has substantially diminished, and it may be that you wish to de-recognise a union where there is an existing relationship. If the union enjoys statutory recognition then a specific de-recognition process must be followed. We can guide you through this and advise on tactics to minimise the impact upon industrial relations.

In instances where industrial action is threatened, we can advise as to the options open to you to minimise the impact upon your business.
